Thailand Visa Extension
A visa extension allows you to remain in Thailand longer than your initial entry permission, without leaving the country. Whether you are extending a tourist visa, a long-stay visa, or a DTV stay, Visa Centre assists with documents, form preparation, and Immigration office attendance.
TWO TYPES OF EXTENSION
TOURIST VISA EXTENSION (30 DAYS)
If you entered Thailand on a tourist visa (TR, 60 days) or a visa exemption (30 days), you can apply for a single in-country extension:
• Tourist visa (TR) extension: 30 additional days. Total stay: up to 90 days.
• Visa exemption extension: 30 additional days. Total stay: up to 60 days.
• Fee: 1,900 THB, payable at the Immigration Bureau.
• Documents: passport, TM.7 form, passport photograph, proof of onward travel or accommodation (some offices; not universally required).
• This extension can only be done once per entry — you cannot extend a tourist visa extension again.
LONG-STAY VISA ANNUAL EXTENSION
For holders of Non-OA (retirement), Non-O (marriage/family), Non-B (employment), DTV, LTR, and other long-stay visa categories: the annual extension of stay is applied for at Immigration before the current permission expires.
• Fee: 1,900 THB.
• Documents: varies by visa type — typically passport, relevant visa-specific financial evidence (bank passbook + bank letter for retirement/marriage), TM30 registration, photographs, and the TM.7 form.
• The extension grants a further 12 months of stay in Thailand for retirement/marriage/employment; DTV extensions grant 180 days.
DTV IN-COUNTRY EXTENSION (180 DAYS)
DTV holders can extend their initial 180-day stay by a further 180 days in-country at Immigration — giving up to 360 days of continuous stay before needing to exit and re-enter.
• Fee: 1,900 THB.
• Documents: passport, DTV visa stamp, completed TM.7.
THE EXTENSION PROCESS
All extensions are applied for at the Immigration Bureau for your province. In Bangkok: Government Complex, Chaeng Watthana. Outside Bangkok: your provincial Immigration office.
Steps: arrive early, take a queue number, present documents to the officer, pay the fee, receive the extension stamp. Processing is same-day.
COMMON MISTAKES THAT DELAY EXTENSIONS
• Overstay of even one day before applying: results in an overstay fine (500 THB/day) and potentially a re-entry ban.
• Missing TM30: ensure your TM30 is on file before attending Immigration.
• Wrong form version: use the current TM.7 (pick up at the Immigration office or download from immigration.go.th).
• Expired health insurance (Non-OA holders): must present an insurance policy valid for the next 12 months at extension time.
• Bank balance dip (retirement/marriage holders): the passbook must show the required balance continuously for the 3 months before application.
HOW VISA CENTRE HELPS
We prepare your complete document set, check TM30 status in advance, advise on timing, and can attend Immigration with you or on your behalf for certain extension types. For clients on annual extensions, we track your extension deadline and remind you 6 weeks in advance.
